Saturday 10th March 2007 - Bulmuildy Halls - Townhead Young
Defenders Competition, Bishopbriggs
The Townhead Competition is always one of the well
supported and superbly run competitions on the circuit, the hall is generally
full for the entire
days events, and at times its hard to find a place to stand never mind sit. The
TYD as always improve the competition year on year with there handling of the
event and with so many Bands and supporters attending they still manage to keep
everyone happy, this competition if any shows the Scottish Band scene for what
it is.
The level of Bands at the Townhead competition is always of a very high standard
and while the competition is stiff the event runs with good feeling and
intentions from the TYD and all attending Bands. As mentioned the standard of
Bands was very high and at times it was hard to separate just who would find
there way into the prize giving ceremony which was to be held the following day.
As ever the Townhead Young Defenders provided some light entertainment between
Bands with the popular Loyalist Disco Calton Radio in attendance providing a
range of traditional Loyalist and Orange music which created a good atmosphere
throughout the day, adding to the already impressive spectacle of Bands taking
part there was never a lull in the days events.
It was also great to see the friendship continue between the Townhead and Pride
of Lagan Valley showing the camaraderie that exists within the
Loyalist Band scene.
The Britannia played with 11 flutes, 3
side drums, bass drum and cymbals, this was young Craig (Toods) debut with the
Band, the set for the competition also included Victory of Life which was also
given its public debut.
