Saturday 24th March 2007 - Cambuslang District 40 - Act of
Union Parade, Edinburgh
The 'Brits' were delighted to accompany 40 District Lodge, Cambuslang to the
Grand Lodge parade in Edinburgh, to mark the 300th anniversary of the Act of
Union.
As loyalists this historic parade down most of the Royal Mile was an event not
to be missed. Cambuslang are due great credit for their turnout on the day,
they put many larger districts to shame.
The 'Act of Union' 1707 came during the reign of Queen Anne, King William III's
sister in law and heir. This union was the second major event towards creating
the Great Britain we know and support today. Sensible people then did not want
border posts at Carlisle, I think we all agree we do not need them today. UNITY
IS STRENGTH.
The band paraded with 15 fluters, 7 side drummers. 2 bass drummers and a cymbal
player, and gave a high class performance.
John & Raymond on the drums, Chris &John on the flute, Craig on the cymbals and
Andy with the Colour Party all made their street debut with the band. Well done
boys one and all.
The Road to the Somme and Victory of Life were both given their marching
premier.
Also accompanying District 40 were the
Cambuslang Volunteers Flute Band, it is difficult to give a report on the Band
as I was marching with my own band, however all reports from members of District
40 have been favourable for both Bands.
All in all, a great day all round.
